Being called by the Lord is one of the greatest honors we could ever receive. Yet many of us live on the fading warmth of that first encounter, when God first stirred our hearts and set us ablaze for His purpose. Your story may not look like Moses’ (Exodus 3:1–6), but the same God who called him also called you to an equally sacred purpose: to love Him deeply and expand His Kingdom by making disciples.

Today, I want to encourage you: keep the flame burning. Let your love for God grow deeper, brighter, and stronger with every passing day.

Fanning the Flame

Paul urged Timothy, “Fan into flame the gift of God which is in you” (2 Timothy 1:6). Flames don’t keep burning on their own; they require tending. So does our relationship with God. To keep the flame alive, we must be intentional: drawing closer to Him, seeking His face, knowing His heart, and allowing His Spirit to fill us anew.

It’s easy to make ministry about ourselves—our gifts, our platforms, our influence. But the flame doesn’t belong to us. Every spark, every glow, every ember is from Him. Any fruit we see, any victory we celebrate, is evidence of His presence, His power, and His anointing. All the glory belongs to Him.

Moses learned this over time. In Exodus 3, he was afraid to look at God. But by Exodus 33, he spoke with God as a friend. That kind of intimacy was not born overnight. It came through decades of daily surrender, conversation, and obedience. When Moses came down from the mountain, his face shone because he had been with God (Exodus 34:29–30). People could see it. The same is true for us: time spent in God’s presence changes us.

A Life That Glows with His Presence

To keep your flame burning bright:

  • Know God personally (John 10:14–16).
  • Reflect His nature (Hebrews 1:2–3).
  • Embrace His mission (Matthew 28:18–20).
  • Remain in Him (John 15:4–5).

This means surrender, laying down our own desires and ambitions so that God becomes the center of everything. Worship, then, is not just what we do; it’s who we are. A surrendered life becomes a living act of worship, a sweet fragrance that pleases God (2 Corinthians 5:14–16).

Moses understood this. He refused to move without God’s presence: “If Your Presence will not go with us, do not send us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15, ESV)

May we have that same heart; unwilling to lead, move, or minister without His presence.

When the Flame Burns Bright

When we walk closely with God…

  • We begin to look more like Jesus.
  • We bear lasting fruit—God blesses the work of our hands.
  • Our lives become a blessing to others.
  • The Kingdom of God expands through us.
  • And we empower others in their callings, as Moses did with Joshua.

Tending the Flame Daily

Keep your relationship with God alive and growing:

  • Spend unhurried time in His Word, not for teaching or preaching, but for communion.
  • Sit quietly in His presence.
  • Build a circle of prayer partners who lift and hold you accountable.
  • Pray in the Spirit and listen for His whisper.
  • Give thanks often. Cultivate a heart of gratitude.
  • Invest in others; open doors for those who follow behind you.

Make your walk with God your highest priority. Let His presence be the oxygen of your soul; the flame that lights your path and warms your heart.
